Laying Strong Foundations: KinderGym Coaching Course Prepares Coaches to Inspire Singapore’s Youngest Gymnasts

On 7–8 May 2025, Singapore Gymnastics conducted its KinderGym Coaching Course to equip coaches with the skills and tools to teach children under the age of six fundamental gymnastics movements—key components in their physical, social, and cognitive development.

KinderGym is often a child’s first introduction to gymnastics. That first experience matters—it should be safe, engaging, and most importantly, fun. A positive start builds confidence and sets the tone for a lifelong love of gymnastics. This is why KinderGym lessons are thoughtfully designed with a child’s age and developmental stage in mind.

The program creates a stimulating environment that encourages children to explore, discover, and develop fundamental movement skills such as balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility. Through guided activities and play, children improve their concentration, comprehension, and self-confidence—all crucial foundations for their future physical and mental growth.

As children progress, coaches introduce more structured teaching and guided discovery during group activities and equipment use, allowing each child to build on their skills at their own pace.

The course reflects Singapore Gymnastics’ commitment to nurturing the sport from the grassroots level and fostering lifelong participation in physical activity. By investing in coach education and development, the organisation ensures that every child’s first steps into gymnastics are positive, empowering, and joyful.
