On 25 September 2026, Singapore received an opportunity to compete in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2026, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) offered a quota place to the Singapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC). Acceptance was required on the same day, giving Singapore Gymnastics (SG) a short window to assess eligible athletes and put forward its nominations.
Singapore had previously received quotas only for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), and SG’s existing selection policy for these Games therefore covered WAG only. In response to the unexpected MAG opportunity, SG assessed and ranked the eligible athletes based on their competition results, international experience, consistency, competition readiness and coaches’ assessment.
The SG team worked closely together to complete the assessment and submit the nominations within the required timeline. We are grateful for team’s dedication and swift coordination, and for the support and guidance received from SNOC throughout the process.
Following this assessment, Xavier Pang Sheng Wei has been selected to represent Singapore, Nathanael Pek Sek Kai and Samuel Loh Tze Hung have been named as the first and second non-travelling reserves respectively. Ryosuke Kusumi will accompany Xavier as the Technical Official.
This one-off selection process reflects the exceptional timeline under which the quota was offered. In line with its usual practice, SG will develop a MAG selection policy for future Games.
As preparations for YOG 2026 continue, SG congratulates Xavier on his selection and thanks Nathanael and Samuel for their continued preparation and commitment as reserves.
Xavier will be joining Emmanuelle as Singapore’s representatives at YOG 2026 in Dakar and we look forward to supporting them!
