SG Strengthens Judging Framework with Three Updated Policies

Following the review of SG Nationals 2026 and Singapore Open (SGO) 2026, and taking into consideration the feedback received, SG is pleased to announce the finalisation of three judging policies aimed at strengthening judge development, accreditation, professional standards and governance across all four gymnastics disciplines: Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) and Trampoline Gymnastics (TRA).

A Collaborative Review Process

The development of these policies has been a collaborative effort between SG's Performance Director (PD) and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Judge Coordinators.

Between May and September 2026, five dedicated meetings were held. These meetings provided an opportunity to review existing judging structures, identify areas for improvement, discuss discipline-specific requirements and develop a more consistent and transparent judging framework.

Following these discussions, the draft policies were circulated to the TACs of all four disciplines on for review and feedback. The policies were subsequently submitted to the SG Board for further review.

Following the consultation process and consideration of the feedback received, the three policies were finalised.

Overview of the Three Policies

1. National Judging Accreditation Pathway

This policy establishes a structured national judging pathway across MAG, WAG, RG and TRA.

Key areas include:

  • Clear accreditation levels, competencies and progression requirements.
  • Discipline-specific education, assessment and practical judging requirements.
  • Minimum annual judging commitments to maintain accreditation.
  • Recognition and assessment pathways for judges with overseas qualifications and eligible former national athletes.
  • Conflict of Interest (COI) declaration requirements.
  • Clearer procedures for maintaining, renewing, suspending or withdrawing national accreditation.

The framework aims to support the continuous development of National Judges while ensuring consistent accreditation standards across disciplines.

2. International Judge Development, Selection and Appointment Policy

This policy provides a transparent framework for developing and supporting SG's international judges.

  • Clearer eligibility and selection principles for World Gymnastics (WG) Judges' Courses.
  • Transparent prioritisation for international judging appointments and SG funding support.
  • Recognition of judging contributions, education and technical leadership.
  • Clearer responsibilities and governance for international judges.

The policy aims to encourage active contribution to Singapore's judging community while supporting the long-term development of international judging expertise.

3. SG Judges' Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct establishes common professional and ethical standards for all judges representing SG.

Key areas include:

  • Integrity, impartiality and professionalism in judging.
  • Responsibilities and expected conduct during competitions.
  • Safeguarding and athlete welfare.
  • Conflict of Interest declarations and management.
  • Confidentiality and appropriate communication.
  • Procedures for addressing misconduct, warnings and disciplinary action.

The Code reinforces SG's commitment to fair, transparent and ethical judging practices.

Supporting the Future of Judging in Singapore

Together, these three policies provide a more comprehensive and consistent framework for judge development, accreditation, selection and professional conduct.

SG would like to express its sincere appreciation to the TAC Judge Coordinators, Emily Chan (WAG), Phaan Yi Lin (RG), Sin Gen Keong (MAG) and Lee Kern Choong (TRA), for their dedication, technical expertise and valuable contributions throughout the review process. Their close collaboration with SG Performance Director Berfin Serdil Ors has played a key role in developing policies that address the specific needs of each discipline while promoting consistency and common standards across SG

Through these policies, SG remains committed to strengthening the quality, professionalism and development of gymnastics judging in Singapore.
