On Saturday, 30 August 2025, Singapore Gymnastics (SG) held its 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in person at the Black Box Auditorium, Sports Hub Visitor Centre, with 23 voting members present. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Patrick Liew, President of Singapore Gymnastics, and marked a pivotal moment for the organisation, with key governance matters addressed and forward-looking plans shared.
President’s Message: A Year of Transformation and Momentum
President Dr. Patrick Liew delivered his report for FY2024/25, describing the past year as one of transformation and forward momentum for Singapore Gymnastics. The strengthening of SG’s leadership and technical teams, marked by the appointments of a Performance Director and Performance Development Manager, both of whom will play key roles in shaping athlete pathways and organisational growth was highlighted.
Work is currently underway on the FY2026–29 Business Plan, which is being shaped by research into Singapore’s gymnastics landscape. The initiative aims to ensure strategic alignment with community needs and long-term development goals.
On the competitive front, SG celebrated breakthrough results at the 2024 Asian Championships, where Singapore secured its first-ever junior men’s, junior women’s, and trampoline medals, marking a historic milestone for the nation.
Progress was noted through ongoing reviews of the SG Constitution and Governance Policy, aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability.
The address was closed by thanking the Board and committees for their contributions, and emphasised the importance of Board succession planning, acknowledging the leadership transitions confirmed at this year’s AGM
Major Developments and Strategic Bids
Singapore Gymnastics continues to expand its footprint across the local and regional gymnastics landscape. Membership grew steadily over the past year, reaching 3,152 members across 36 clubs by the end of 2024. A testament to SG’s deepening engagement across disciplines and its commitment to community development.
Further reinforcing its regional presence, SG announced its successful bid to host the Junior and Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships in May 2025 at the OCBC Arena. This milestone reflects the organisation’s growing reputation for high-quality event delivery and its strategic focus on positioning Singapore as a hub for international gymnastics.
Annual Report and Financial Overview
The 2024 Annual Report and audited financial statements for the year ending 31 March 2025 were presented and adopted during the AGM. A comprehensive overview of SG’s financial performance was presented by the Treasurer, noting a projected surplus of S$102,000, significantly exceeding the budgeted surplus of S$16,000.
Despite a decrease in overall income compared to the previous financial year, largely due to the absence of major and fundraising events. SG saw a 24.47% year-on-year increase in self-generated income from membership, events and education.
SG’s reserve position remains healthy at over S$1 million, building upon the FY23 reserves of S$990,000 and reinforcing the organisation’s financial stability heading into the next financial year.
Board Elections and Appointments
In a highly anticipated election, members cast their votes to select four directors from an impressive pool of ten accomplished nominees, with the stipulation that no more than two could be non-Singaporean. After a closely contested race, Terry Tay, Dr. Patrick Liew, Dr. Naveen Bhat, and Alan Wong Tuan Keng emerged as the newly elected directors, each set to bring their expertise and leadership to the board for the next four years.
As Singapore Gymnastics looks ahead, the foundation has been set for continued progress across all disciplines. With a strengthened leadership team, a robust financial position and a growing membership base, the organisation is well positioned to build on recent achievements and expand its impact at both grassroots and high-performance levels.
The hosting of the Junior and Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships in May 2025 offers a significant opportunity to showcase Singapore’s capabilities on the regional stage. As the development of the FY2026–29 Business Plan progresses, Singapore Gymnastics remains focused on strategic, data-driven growth that reflects the needs of its clubs, athletes and community.
With re-elected and newly appointed directors bringing fresh perspectives and continuity of leadership, the Board is committed to fostering transparency, inclusivity and long-term success. The journey ahead is one of collaboration, resilience and ambition, guided by a shared vision to elevate gymnastics in Singapore and empower athletes to reach their highest potential.
