The SG Board, at its meeting in September, agreed to form a Membership Review Group, under the
leadership of new Board Director, Dr Naveen Bhat, and with the support of Liam Mescall, Board
Director and club owner, Dennis Breckenridge, Board Director and club owner, and Dawn Ho and her
Community Development Team in the SG National Office.
Its purpose is simple, to explore how membership of Singapore Gymnastics can grow to be fully
representative of the gymnastics fraternity and that membership fees can be re-invested back into the
National Development Infrastructure for wider community development to continue to grow
gymnastics in Singapore. The objective is to come forward with a series of recommendations that can
be supported by the Board of Singapore Gymnastics and shared with the fraternity in time for
implementation from January 2027, the start of a new membership year.
The recently published Landscape Study of Gymnastics in Singapore (April 2025) reported that there
are 20,000 participants in Gymnastics and 97 gymnastics providers. The membership figures at the
end of December 2024 showed a total Singapore Gymnastics membership of 3,152 individuals with 2
full and 36 club members. This was broken down into 2,461 athlete members, 403 technical member
and 288 associate members. This is a significant increase (141%) over the figures from 2018, where
there were 1308 total members (1022 athlete members, 151 technical members and 135 associate
members). However, it is not yet close to the growth potential.
The challenge is how we can make Singapore Gymnastics more representative of gymnastics in
Singapore with at least 10,000 members, one of the KPIs of the approved SG Business Plan FY26-29.
No stone will be left un-turned!
