Elaine is a qualified lawyer called to the bar in 3 jurisdictions - New York, England and Wales and Singapore. The first decade of her career was spent as a private practice lawyer mainly with international firms where she advised on cross border financial transactions, as well as a variety of corporate, regulatory and compliance matters. In the last 5 years, she moved to corporate counsel roles and is currently Head of APAC Legal and Compliance at a Fintech.

She has been active in the community since her youth. The one thread that runs through all her community service efforts has been fairness/equal opportunity.

  • Children and education: Elaine firmly believes in education being the great social leveller. Through her grassroots activities, she had the privilege to be part of the team that launched a range of meaningful programs for less privileged children and youths that later grew into a free after school care centre for children in rental flats. In her youth, she also played an active role in bringing the life-saving mission of St John and resilience and discipline formed through a uniformed group into the primary schools through the St John Badgers program.

  • Uplifting the last the least and the lost: Elaine also cares deeply about the elderly in rental flats in Chinatown and often participates in activities that aim to assist them in areas of financial aid, medical care, food and other necessities. One of the projects she set up brought nursing care to the homes of the elderly. She has also been serving as co-Chairperson of Law Awareness Committee in Law Society Pro Bono Services, disseminating basic legal knowledge to the public so that they would be empowered to protect themselves.

As part of the board of Singapore Gymnastics, Elaine hopes to continue her work in ensuring equal opportunity - opportunity to participate in, and excel at, this amazing foundational sport that is gymnastics. In the area of governance, she will utilise her training and experience to do her best to ensure that policies are fair. She also hopes to make gymnastics a more inclusive sport, where necessary, finding ways to help alleviate concerns of cost, access to information, facilities etc. Most importantly, she hopes that all participants in the sport, whether as athletes, judges, coaches, business owners, volunteers or others, have a happy and fulfilling time engaging with the sport.
