Our MAG NTC athletes extended a warm welcome to Dame Louise Martin, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), along with CEO Katie Sadleir and Chris Chan, Secretary General of Commonwealth Games Association Singapore. The visit took place at Bishan Sports Hall on Monday, November 13, providing an opportunity for them to observe our MAG NTC athletes during their training sessions and engage with them. This gathering at Bishan Sports Hall was also connected to the announcement of new funding for the Commonwealth Games Game Changers initiative. Lim Heem Wei, one of our WAG National Coaches for Singapore Gymnastics, who has been a part of the Commonwealth Games Federation’s Athletes Advisory Commission since 2018, was also present at the event.
Katie Sadleir, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said: "Ahead of the Assembly, it’s been a privilege to meet dedicated local athletes here in Singapore and to announce a new round of Games Changers funding. The initiative is one of our key Development Programmes that encourages Nations to foster social change and embrace the values that bind the Commonwealth."
This visit served as a prelude to the convening of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth Games Federation's members, that took place in Singapore from November 14 to 16, 2023. This gathering held special significance as it marked Dame Louise's final term as President, having successfully completed two terms.
Singapore Gymnastics expresses its gratitude to Dame Louise Martin for her unwavering dedication to the Commonwealth Sport Movement, notably marked by the establishment of the Commonwealth Youth Games. Her groundbreaking achievement as the first female elected to the Board in 1999 is also acknowledged with appreciation. Dame Louise Martin's connection to gymnastics is noteworthy, given her presidency at Scottish Gymnastics from 1993 to 1999."
