Leadership Transition at Singapore Gymnastics

Published Thu 04 Jun 2026

The Singapore Gymnastics Board is pleased to announce the leadership transition of the organisation.

Following several years of dedicated service, Dr Patrick Liew will be stepping down from the role of President, but remaining as a Board Director, for the immediate future, to assist a smooth transition. Current Vice President Audrey Ong has been nominated by the Board to succeed him as President.

As part of this transition, we would like to share messages from our outgoing President, incoming President, and Chief Executive Officer.

A Message from Dr Patrick Liew, Outgoing President

Serving as President of Singapore Gymnastics has been an extraordinary privilege. As I prepare to conclude my term as President of Singapore Gymnastics, I find myself reflecting on the experiences that shaped this journey.

I took over the presidency during a challenging period in its history.  Beyond forming a new board and energising the team, we redesigned our corporate philosophy and put together a strategic five-year plan. Almost from the start, we raised funds to support the growth of our movement. We rebuilt the leadership team, strengthened our athlete pipeline, and increased our share of medals on the international stage.

Within a short period, Singapore Gymnastics organised two major international competitions and made a name for itself. Over time, we built one of the best-run sports associations, with a competent board supported by dedicated committees overseeing the key pillars of our community. We also won multiple Charity Transparency Awards from the Charity Council.

As I step down, I do so with deep gratitude and even deeper confidence. We have built a generation of leaders, and they are ready to take Singapore Gymnastics to new heights.

I believed then, as I still do now, that our mission has never been about building an organisation. It has always been about building people.  It’s about developing stronger leaders who will make a positive difference in our community and society.

To everyone who walked this path with me, thank you.

I’m grateful for your trust, your partnership, and your disagreements that made us better. I’m thankful for your commitment and belief that Singapore Gymnastics can continue to grow into an even stronger movement. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your friendship, assistance and support.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

A Message from Audrey Ong, Incoming President

As Patrick hands over the baton, I am mindful that I am taking on the responsibility of stewarding an organization that serves a broader community of gymnasts, parents, coaches, judges, clubs, volunteers and our staff in the national office. These are big shoes to fill, and I intend to do my very best as I take up this next leg of the relay. I am grateful for the confidence that the Board has placed in me and honoured by the opportunity to serve the community in a deeper capacity moving forward.

Singapore Gymnastics today stands on foundations built by many dedicated individuals over many years. I would like to thank Patrick for his leadership, stewardship, and contributions to the organisation. His efforts, alongside that of our committed board directors and committee members have helped position Singapore Gymnastics for continued growth and success. I also would like to thank our CEO Richard Gordon, for his tireless dedication and passion to build up the community and association, as well as the quiet continuity and consistency that he provides, alongside that of our hardworking, dedicated staff in the SG national office.

As we look ahead, my commitment is simple: to serve as a steward of the organisation and to work alongside the Board, management team, athletes, coaches, officials, clubs, volunteers, and partners in advancing the sport we all care deeply about.

We inherit not only opportunities, but also responsibilities: to support our athletes, strengthen our community, uphold good governance, and ensure that Singapore Gymnastics continues to grow in a sustainable and meaningful way.

I look forward to listening, learning, and working together as we write the next chapter of gymnastics in Singapore.

A Message from Richard Gordon, Chief Executive Officer

Leadership transitions are important milestones in the life of any organisation.

On behalf of the Singapore Gymnastics staff, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Patrick for his leadership, support, and partnership throughout his tenure as President. His contributions have helped shape the organisation and guide its development.

I would also like to welcome Audrey as she prepares to take on this new role. Audrey has demonstrated a deep commitment to Singapore Gymnastics through her service on the Board and committees. She understands both the opportunities and challenges facing our community and has consistently brought energy, thoughtfulness and a strong sense of purpose.

This transition represents continuity rather than a change in direction. Our mission remains the same: to serve our gymnastics community, the athletes, clubs and coaches, to strengthen governance, and create the conditions for gymnastics in Singapore to grow and thrive, and delivering on the ambitions we have set for Singapore Gymnastics in the coming years.

We look forward to working together with the Board, our stakeholders, and the wider gymnastics family as we continue building on the progress achieved thus far.
