Singapore Gymnastics are excited to announce the appointment of Ms Zhang Zhen as the Women’s Artistic National Coach. Zhen, originally from the People’s Republic of China, brings with her a wealth of experience, having coached at the Elite level with a proven track record since 1982.

During her coaching stint with the Chinese National Team from 1990 – 1997, the team achieved Team 4th in the 1994 World Championships, Team 2nd in the 1995 World Championships and Team 3rd in the 1996 and 1997 World Championships. The team also came in 1st in the 19945 Asian Games. Zhen was also the personal coach for LIU Xuan who eventually won the Balance Beam title in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Having spent the last decade in Australia, Zhen guided numerous gymnasts, including Emma Nedov, Elena Chipizubov and Breanna Scott. Emma placed 1st and 2nd on Balance Beam in the 2019 Baku World Cup and 2019 Melbourne World Cup respectively. Elena placed 4th in the 2019 Melbourne World Cup and 2019 Pan Pacific Games while Breanna placed 6th in the 2020 Melbourne World Cup.

In a statement from Zhen on her appointment, she said “I’m looking forward to working with gymnasts, parents, coaches and Singapore Gymnastics to bring the WAG High-Performance program to greater heights.”

“The immediate task at hand would be to help every athlete build up their self-confidence, so they can then go on to challenge themselves, to attain their goals and perform to the best of their abilities in next year’s Southeast-Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.”

Program Manager, Perry Koh, added: "After a long recruitment process, we're thrilled to have coach Zhang taking up the role of Women's National Coach at Singapore Gymnastics.”

“We are confident that with Coach Zhang’s guidance, along with the current National coaches and staff, we will be able to raise the profile and standard of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics in Singapore.”
