2024 Cartwheel-a-thon

Published Mon 11 Dec 2023

Singapore, [23 November 2023] — Singapore Gymnastics is planning to start the new year with a groundbreaking fundraising event- the Singapore Gymnastics Cartwheel-a-thon. This unique initiative aims to set a new record for the most number of cartwheels completed locally, recognised by the Singapore Book of Records.

Over two hours on 13 January 2024, participants in the Cartwheel-a-thon will be invited to cartwheel simultaneously at over 5 locations around the island, including partner malls and gymnastics clubs to set a new record for the most number of cartwheels in 2 hours.

The funds raised for Singapore Gymnastics will go to developing High Performance Infrastructure: Raising funds to enhance Singapore's presence on the world gymnastics stage. SG has also partnered with charity, Beyond Social services, and after defraying up to 30% of the fund-raising expenses, the remaining donations will be allocated with 30% going to Beyond Social Services and the remaining 70% to Singapore Gymnastics (OTSF High Performance Sport (HPS) System).

This is the first time that Singapore Gymnastics is partnering with a charity on a fundraising project, and President of Singapore Gymnastics, Dr Patrick Liew says this project is about making a broader positive impact: “The Singapore Gymnastics Cartwheel-a-thon is not just about breaking a record; it's about making a lasting impact on the community. We hope we can rally our gym-loving community, as well as everyone around Singapore, to do something fun and meaningful together. We need to raise funds to further our goals for Singapore athletes to achieve even more on the world stage, while also doing our bit to support our partner charity, to inspire and build up youth who may not have the same opportunities that many of us have.”

Beyond Social Services are dedicated to helping children and youths from less privileged backgrounds break away from the poverty cycle. And Executive Director of Beyond Social Services Gerard Ee says: “We are deeply grateful for Cartwheel-a-thon as it a fun and innovative way of fostering friendships that aligns with our vision for a more inclusive society.

Fundraising Period: The fundraising campaign will run from December 23 to February 24.

At www.SGCartwheels2024.com, participants have the opportunity to sign up and commit to a specific count of cartwheels. They can specify the number of cartwheels they aim to perform, set fundraising goals, and select the locations where they plan to execute their cartwheels.
