2021 Singapore Open Cancelled

Published Thu 13 May 2021

Singapore Gymnastics would like to thank the clubs for adhering to all the changes in the last few weeks and patience while we gained further clarity and the approval of the sport-specific guidelines.

We believe that in a global health crisis, we are only as strong as our most vulnerable. It takes extreme prudence in prioritizing what matters, a decision that proves to be more and more difficult everyday.

As much as our hearts desire to open the stage for the 2021 Singapore Open, it is with deep sadness that we had to cancel the competition due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments in Singapore. It is one of the toughest decisions that we had to make, but at the end of the day, the safety of our staff, event volunteers, judges, our participants and their respective coaches, our partners and the community take ultimate priority.

Singapore Gymnastics will continue to provide the experience that the community expect and deserve in a safe environment through the following events.

    • 2021 Summer Cup – 7-8 August – MAG, WAG, RG & TRA – FIG and high levels only
    • 2021 Gymnastics Carnival - 13 -14 November – GymFest, Gym, Gym Challenge and MAG (Foundation, Level 1 and 2), WAG (Level 1  and 2) & RG (Kinder and Level 1)

The competition directives can be found on the respective event pages.

Singapore Gymnastics acknowledges these new restrictions imposed by the Government and recognise the impact that these will have on our affiliated Clubs, the heartbeat of our community. We want to acknowledge and applaud our clubs who have been proactive with the implementation and adoption of all the MOH requirements and the social distancing measures that have come into play. Their proactiveness in this matter is to be commended.

We support the new guidelines as necessary to help keep Singapore safe. We encourage our clubs to abide by all the guidelines outlined by SportSG when referring to youth-centric programmes and MOH when it comes to tighter safe distancing measures. We understand the difficulties this may cause clubs if they are to close for a period. We know if we work together as a united group we can manage these uncertain times.

We encourage all of our community to remain vigilant in their daily lives and continue to listen to the relevant government authorities.
Thank you for your understanding and collaboration in these challenging times.

We remain excited to host you later this year, together we will champion our shared advocacy – creating a safe sporting environment.

Wishing good health and safety to everyone!
